Trumpet players love to talk about trumpet gear !

(alright then, here's my stuff!)

Ahh yes... the exciting world of cups, rims, shank and bore sizes, valve oil viscosity, heavy valve caps, tuning bells and reverse lead pipes!. Now tell me honestly, who could possibly find this kind of talk dull or mundane?

Monette B957 Bb Trumpet

I aquired this horn new in Feb. '97. It was custom made for me by Dave Monette in Portland Oregon. I was introduced to these instruments by a fantastic trumpeter I knew in Boston named Andy Gravish. I use a Monette STC-3 B2 mouthpiece for 90% of my playing. On the rare occasions I have to play lead, and with Top City, I use a Monette STC-2 B2LD which can really cut. I also have an STC-B2FL mouthpiece which is very deep and very dark. For more info on these incredible horns and mouthpieces check out the Monette website.

LeBlanc (Courtois) 770 Conrad Gozzo Model Bb Trumpet

I got this trumpet new in 1981. It was my main horn until I got the Monette. It is a great horn but with a slightly brighter sound than I usually like... one of the reasons I switched to  the Monette. I still play it a lot and I could never part with it. I use a Monette standard weight STC-1 B2 mouthpiece with this trumpet.

Yamaha 731 Bb Flugelhorn

Purchased used for a song! One of the best flugels I have played. The .438 medium bore is more to my liking than the small bore models, and gets a cozier sound than some of the .460 large bore flugels out there. Super consistent build quality. I had the 3rd trigger added by David Gsponer at Matterhorn Music, in Surrey, B.C. Played with a Monette B2FL Mouthpiece.

Getzen Eterna Model Bb/A Piccolo Trumpet

This Getzen piccolo trumpet was a recent purchase on eBay. It is a great little horn and I am having a blast learning to play it. I knew it would be difficult though, and I am beginning to understand why many players complain about having to play it!

Olds Special Bb Cornet

Near as I can figure from the serial #, this horn dates to about 1948. The lacquer is 98% gone but the horn is in great shape. It actually belongs to my dad, but I have it on semi permanent loan. I use the Bach 3 cornet mouthpiece (brand new!) that came with the horn, although I am still looking for a cornet mouthpiece to use permanently with all my cornets.

Getzen Eterna & Olds Ambassador Bb Cornets

Don't really play them a lot, so I'm not really sure what my obsession with cornets is. I just really think they're cool. Here are two eBay aquisitions I picked up for almost nothing. The Getzen has the nice dark sound of the shepard's crook design, and the Olds is a remarkable player for a student model. Both are early 60's vintage instruments. Again I had David at Matterhorn Music do some minor repair and clean up on these babies and they play great! Played with a Bach 3 cornet mouthpiece.
